Tenzing and Gombu Rocks

Introduction

The Tenzing and Gombu rocks are on either side of the Lebong Cart Road. Tenzing Norgay was the first to climb Mount Everest along with Edmund Hillary in 1953. Nawang Gombu was the first person to climb Mount Everest twice.
These rocks are a popular tourist attraction in Darjeeling. Many tourists visit this place every year.

Best time to visit Tenzing and Gombu Rocks

The best time to visit Darjeeling is between April and June. The temperatures between 20C (68F) and 25C (77F) in these months. From October to December there will be less mist.

How to get to Tenzing and Gombu Rocks

The best way to reach Tenzing and Gombu Rocks is by taxi. Shared taxis are cheaper than private taxis. You can get the taxis near Chowk Bazaar, Gandhi Road and other places. You can get buses near Chowk Bazaar. Based on budget one can plan their mode of transport.

Layout of the Tenzing Rock

The trainees and the professional climbers use the left side of the rock to climb up. The tourists can use the right side of the rock to climb up with the help of the guides. The fee is about Rs.100 ($1.25). If the rock gets wet or moist, the climb will be difficult.
